Facebook Messenger is the second most popular messaging app in the world after WhatsApp and now the company has added a useful feature.

In Facebook Messenger, users can now secure their voice and video calls with end-to-end encryption.

The end-to-end encryption option in Messenger has been available for chat messages since 2016, but now this feature has been introduced for voice and video calls.

But like text messages, making calls end-to-end encrypted would be optional, or in simple words, the user would have to do it himself.

A blog post from Facebook   states that if the user turns on end-to-end encryption for Messenger calls, no one, including Facebook, will be able to see or hear the calls.

With end-to-end encryption for calls, Facebook has also updated the expiring messages feature.

Under this feature, messages are automatically deleted at the scheduled time and now Facebook has updated the timer and added the time option of 5 seconds to 24 hours.

Facebook will also launch a quick end-to-end encryption test for messenger group chats and group calls.

Similarly, end-to-end encryption for messages and calls on Instagram will soon be tested.

In the first phase, Instagram users in specific countries will have the opportunity to use this update.

Instagram will also have an end-to-end encryption optional feature and the user will have to turn it on himself.

All of these changes are part of Facebook's plan to integrate all messaging apps.
